Dr. Tanner J. McCarty is an agricultural economist whose expertise bridges economic theory, data-driven analysis, and strategic agribusiness management. As founder of Cavalry Agricultural Consulting and Associate Professor of Applied Economics at Utah State University, he brings over a decade of experience in agricultural contracting, dynamic optimization policy analysis and firm strategy to help clients solve complex challenges across the food and agricultural supply chain. His research—published in leading journals such as the American Journal of Agricultural Economics and Applied Economic Perspectives & Policy integrates network theory, risk modeling, and spatial analysis to improve decision-making under uncertainty. With a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University and a proven record of applied consulting and industry collaboration, Dr. McCarty delivers innovative, evidence-based strategies that enhance profitability, resilience, and long-term sustainability for agribusinesses and producers alike

Applied Economist | Analytics, Cost–Benefit & Decision Support
Sofia K. Vielma Délano is an applied economist with extensive experience using data, econometric analysis, and cost-benefit frameworks to inform decision-making across food systems and public policy. With advanced training in agricultural economics and a multidisciplinary background spanning food science, engineering, and international development, she brings a rigorous yet practical approach to complex, real-world problems.
Sofia specializes in translating complex analytical results into clear, actionable insights for policymakers, organizations, and industry leaders. Her experience includes applied economic research and impact evaluation, private-sector cost forecasting and decision support, and policy-facing analysis in international and domestic contexts. She has worked with organizations including Procter & Gamble, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and academic institutions, supporting decisions where uncertainty, tradeoffs, and competing objectives are central.
